1.          North Korea came under harsh international criticism after claiming to have carried out a successful underground nuclear weapons test on Monday. China on Mondaydemanded Pyongyang(平壤) stop any action that would worsen the situation (10/9 CNN)

2.          North Korea'sclaim that it has successfully tested a nuclear weapon has sparked international condemnation.  The White House called for a swift response from the UN Security Council, calling(=and called) Pyongyang's move "provocative". (10/9, BBC)

3.          China -- a key North Korean ally -- openly criticized Pyongyang and demanded that it return to disarmament talks. U.S. President George W.
